Jansen International, LLC working within its Associations on a State wide and National basis, has striven to create awareness of the unauthorized practice of public adjusting. The article below, while dealing with the fraudulent act of creating damages unrelated to a covered peril, shows the unscrupulous behavior of some contractors as they deal with claims adjusting and insurance companies. Building and roofing contractors do not have the expertise to identify damages and relate those damages to a qualified peril covered by insurance. They are prohibited by law to negotiate claims on behalf of an insured client and do not have the training and certification to understand insurance policies and the complicated language contained in the policy.
While most contractors do not behave as the one shown in the article below, it is refreshing to see civil authorities are policing the industry to keep the bad actors from preying on disaster victims at a very difficult time in their lives.
